It has been narrated that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:
“When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (ceaseless charity); a knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him (for the deceased).” [Muslim]
Sadaqah Jariyah is a charity made to never stop. The reward will continue even once you leave this world. Sadaqah Jariyah can also be done in the name of a deceased person, meaning the person you love who is no longer in this world can gain the reward in the hereafter for this act of charity. For every time someone remembers Allah in the sanctuary that you helped build, you or the person you donated on behalf of will gain the reward.
